Car clinic
Car clinic is a special automotive market research conducted by automotive manufacturers in order to receive comprehensive feedback from potential car buyers, most often with the presentation of the tested vehicle in a competitive environment. This type of research allows to identify weaknesses and problems of the car at various stages of its development, production and promotion.
One of the main goals of car clinics is to improve the quality and competitiveness of the vehicles. On the basis of feedback from potential users, designers, engineers, marketers and sales managers can make the necessary adjustments and improvements in the design and promotion of the car so that it meets the requirements and expectations of customers.
Car clinics are conducted at various stages of product development: from the concept and design of the car to testing prototypes and models already available on the market. Each option of the clinic allows to check various aspects of the car: from ease of use and ergonomics to reliability and safety.
There are usually several stages of the car clinic:
- Recruitment of participants: selection of research participants who correspond to the target audience of potential car buyers.
- Recruitment of cars (for clinics with real cars): selection, delivery, preparation and display of the necessary set of cars.
- Testing: participants examine / test the car and evaluate it according to various criteria.
- Data collection: participants take a survey, fill out questionnaires and/or participate in interviews/focus groups where they discuss their impressions and suggestions.
There are several types of car clinics:
- Static car clinics: conducted without a test drive of cars, in case if there is no goal to evaluate the dynamics features and driving.
- Dynamic car clinics: conducted with a test drive of cars along an agreed route, in case if the purposes of the research include assessment of the dynamics features and driving.
- Photo (virtual) car clinics: the car is evaluated by photo / in a virtual environment using special programs and technologies.
- Fly in car clinics: evaluation of cars with the participation of respondents from several cities or countries when they are brought to the place of the car clinic.
Car clinics take an important place among the automotive market research methods as they allow to compare cars according to specified criteria and evaluate cars 360 degrees at the same time.
The benefit of car clinics is that they allow to collect data as close to reality as possible about the perception and evaluation of a car by potential customers, which helps automakers to adapt their products as accurately as possible to customer needs and increase the competitiveness of cars in the market.
